Pack 71 Dodges Weather Bullet at Oh-Da-Ko-Ta. TOP

All the weather forecasts were calling for rain for the Pack 71 fall campout at Camp Oh-Da-Ko-Ta in Burlington, WI. Nobody will forget the front that came through Libertyville at 1pm on Saturday. But, as it always seems to happen with this wonderful Pack, the weather couldn't have been better for the duration of the campout. While there another front passed by just north of us. But, once again, we were spared any danger or hardship.

Everyone arrived and set up campsites and readied themselves for an evening of fun, food, and friendship. First order of business was beginning the event with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Next it was off for a hike to Fort Dakota. The boys had a wonderful time collecting walking sticks, visiting Dyer Lake and generally horsing around.

The evening meal included hotdogs and hamburgers, chips, soda and s'mores. Skits and Joke Telling kept the Pack in stitches until it was time to sack out. The morning came and the sounds of boys working on building a fire woke the Pack for the day. Cubmaster donuts, bagels and breakfast bars were served, along with coffee, hot chocolate, milk and juice. The boys then proceeded to take an hour long hike.

The Pack proceeded to break down camp and make sure they left it in as good of shape as they found it. It's safe to say that everyone can't wait until the Spring Campout.

Pack 71 Represented at Flag Raising at LHS Homecoming TOP

It's safe to say that the LHS Homecoming Game just wouldn't be the same without the strong presence of Scouts of Packs 71, 72 and 60. On October 29th, Pack 71 had the strongest turnout of the three. The weather was cool but not unbearable. The Webelos performed the Flag Raising while the rest of the Scouts showed proper respect for the flag and our country.

Attending from Pack 71 were the following Scouts: Peter Feely, Peter Zemeske, Dan Schilling, Ben Stehley, Kyle Schilling, Robbie Plohr, Brant Kym, Danny Schellin, Christopher Stanek, T.J. Murbach, Max Lund, Justin Page, Tim Johnston, Elliot Stahnke, Charlie Berman, Jack Hercreg, Matt Franz, and Tim Franz.

Thanks to all the Scouts who made the effort to "rough it" and attend the ceremony and game.

Awards Dominate 1st Pack Meeting TOP

Well, the first Pack Meeting is over. And we certainly stuffed alot of events into this evening's celebration.

Den 4 proceeded to begin the meeting with an inspirational reading detailing about how you can do things in spite of what others say.

We congratulate Jamie Wasemann for his Webelo achievement award.

Jamie is a wonderful example of taking advantage of all that Scouting has to offer. Congratulations, Jamie!

Den 4 received their Wolf badges for the work they completed late last year.

These kids worked hard to acheive these awards and should receive a pat on the back from all of us.

Next, we welcomed the new Tiger Cubs of Den 3. Each boy received their neckerchief and clasp from Cubmaster Mark.

It won't be long before these fine young men will be receiving their Bear, Wolf and eventually, their Webelo award, too.

Finally, the kids had a great time with the "Candy Corn Fill Up a Cup Walking Backwards" game.

Team 1 won, but it was extremely close.

Pack 71 Bike Ride a Roaring Success! TOP

On Sunday, August 26th, Pack 71 met at Copeland School and made their way to Independence Grove.
Everyone was quite proud of their accomplishment upon arrival.

When told they had to ride back to Libertyville, well let's just say the outlook of the group changed somewhat.

All in all, it was a wonderful day for all participants. Many thanks to Robert Manfredini for coordinating this great event.

Pack 71 Has Great Time at Pirates of Oakarro TOP

Pirates of Oakarro Day Camp concluded on August 4th and it's safe to say that Pack 71's attendees had a wonderful time in Wadsworth. Jonah Brame, Austin Linville, Daniel and Kyle Schilling, Zach Jenkins, and Matt Franz all attended the 5 day camp. Camp started promptly each day with a Flag Ceremony at 8:45am and continued to 3:00pm. In between, there were all sorts of activities for the boys that included crafts, nature activities, swashbuckling, shooting, and Scout skills such as firebuilding. The staff was attentive and kept the children's interest.

From what we can tell, it seems that the boys enjoyed the Trading Post the most. But who wouldn't? The last evening ended with families invited to celebrate the weeks with the boys. There was an exotic animal demonstration, a very nice dinner, and all sorts of funny skits by the campfire.

Many thanks to all the adult volunteers who assisted with the Camp. They include Judy Brame, Wendy Schilling, Rebeccca Linville and Greg and Sue Franz.

The boys are already talking about next year. Make sure that your boys don't miss out on this wonderful event. Next year's theme will be the WILD WILD WEST.

Camp Oakarro Attendees Make Commitment to Leave No Trace TOP

On behalf of Pack 71, Kyle Schilling, Matt Franz and Austin Linville pledged the Pack's commitment to Leave No Trace at the Pirates of Oakarro Day Camp.

Pinewood Box Derby a Huge Success TOP

The cars were built to the highest quality workmanship. Honed, if you will. The weighin went without controversy. All that was left was "The Event." Welcome to the world of PineBox Racing.

This same story is being played out across the land in Packs from Nantucket to Anchorage. From International Falls to Laredo. From San Diego to Charleston. From.... Well you get the idea. No different here.

This year, we tried something different. We went about the task of breaking the boys into 3 teams and simplified the competition. All cars had to conform to a simple wedge design with minimal modifications. From the early results it was a rousing success. Formula 1 battled NASCAR who battled IROC. It was a close battle all night long. Who won? The results are being tallied and will be disclosed at the Blue & Gold Dinner.

Here are a few pictures from the event.
